We intentionally chose Santo Domingo and Cabarete to give sojourners a richer, more authentic understanding of the Dominican Republic.
Our journey begins in Santo Domingo, the country's historic capital, where sojourners explore the history, culture, and traditions that have shaped Dominican identity. We then travel to Cabarete, a vibrant coastal community where language learning comes to life through everyday conversations, local markets, cafés, music, and meaningful interactions with residents.
By experiencing both destinations, sojourners gain more than improved Spanish—they develop a deeper appreciation for the Dominican Republic's history, culture, and people. This combination reflects Breaking Bias's commitment to creating immersive educational experiences that build cultural understanding through authentic human connection.

Santo Domingo offers the perfect introduction to the history and cultural identity of the Dominican Republic. As the country’s historic capital and home to the UNESCO-designated Colonial City, it provides participants with an opportunity to explore the roots of Dominican history, culture, and Spanish language.
Through historic sites, local neighborhoods, markets, cuisine, and conversations with residents, participants begin their immersion by understanding the history behind the culture and the people behind the language. Santo Domingo sets the foundation for the deeper cultural and Spanish-language experience that continues in Cabarete.

Known for its vibrant coastal community, welcoming atmosphere, music, food, and active local culture, Cabarete gives our Sojourners opportunities to practice Spanish in real-world settings—at cafés, markets, restaurants, and while interacting with local residents.
Here, Spanish becomes more than a lesson. It becomes a way to connect. Sojourners have the opportunity to slow down, engage with the community, build relationships, and experience the Dominican way of life from a more personal perspective. Cabarete is where the immersion truly comes to life.
From morning Spanish practice to cultural excursions and evenings of Dominican cuisine and music, its central location turns language learning into a meaningful cultural experience rooted in authentic human connection.
